Five on Friday

As always, thank you to the hostesses.  This is the most fun post of my week!

1.  White pants - mine are Lauren Conran from Kohls.  I also love my white shorts from Express and my white pencil skirt from Jcrew.  I don't necessarily follow the rules but I probably won't wear them as often after Labor Day.  I just miss them so much when I put them away.

2.  Summer reading, I recently finished Dan Brown Inferno, it was fast paced and exciting. I'm downloading at least two more on my Kindle this weekend.  One of them will be by Mary Kay Andrews, she is possibly my favorite author to read in the summer.
3.  Baked Kale.  I love love love the crunchy texture of kale when it is baked into chips.  I cheat and buy the pre-rinsed and cut Kale in the bag and roast it in the oven for 15 minutes at 350*.  Make sure you lay it out in a single layer on a baking sheet so all sides get crunchy.  I add some coarse salt and enjoy my snack.

4.  Outdoor music.  The summer concern series continued in our town and this month the Johnny Orr Band performed.  It was a phenomenal afternoon - we brought the dog, the weather was nice and cool, and we had two sub sandwiches for dinner picnic style.  Oh, and the music was rockin'.

5.  Blue Bell Happy Tracks ice cream.  This is a special treat that should not be in my house more than twice a year.  It is the absolute best and it's seasonal so it's not to be missed.  Be warned, you need to ration it better than we do!

    1. I haven't read that one. Summer Rental was the last one I finished and it was a great beach choice! Spring Fever might be the next one on my list.

  2. I'm like you with the white pants - mine don't completely go away after Labor Day, but they do get pulled out less often. I'm always so sad to see them go because they just make getting dressed up on Saturday nights so dang easy!

    1. I can put away the seersucker and the linen...I won't even fight white shoes. But why must white bottoms go away? It takes forever to find just the right ones that aren't see through and yet we only get them a few months out of the year. I intend to wear them at least through football season!

    1. I'm surprised with how well the LC brand fits - and you can't see through them! They also have a poppy red and a turquoise color.

  5. I love white jeans! They can make the simplest shirt look chic! I've bought kale chips before from TJ's and they made me nauseous. So I may need to try your homemade recipe!

    1. It took me two years to find the perfect pair of white denim that were opaque. Now I live in them. I'm not sure how Kale chips would be if they weren't fresh. They aren't great if you let them get cold. Fresh Kale chips in the afternoon and healthy and I love the taste and texture.

    1. Yes oh yes you need to read Inferno immediately. It's entertaining and through provoking. Don't put your white away, join the revolution :-)

  7. I am getting ready to do a cleanse and think I should try your kale chip recipe. Thanks for sharing. :)

    1. Good luck with your cleanse, I know Kale fits in with a lot of juicing recipes that call for spinach. Kale chips are delicious, if you don't want to use salt, red pepper flake or "hot and spicy" Mrs. Dash are good alternatives.

  8. I love the white pants! I wanted to wear some for a Fall shoot, but I am thinking I may have to go with something different :/

    1. No you go for it - you can still look very "fall", just throw a scarf on :-)

  9. You are so right!! That ice cream is to DIE for. We are not good at rationing it either...don't buy it on a Friday. ;)
