Black Friday....my loot (just a teaser, no peeking)

This just happened.

Well not just...I needed a few hours of sleep first before I could post.  R met me at moms house last night around 6:30 and took a long nap before we set out to shop.  We were parked at the mall by 10:30 and waited until the stores opened at midnight.  I really thought Macys was going to open earlier...I could have sworn I saw that on one of the commercials during the parade.  I really didn't have to go to Macys so we waited by the Belk entrance until midnight.  There were a lot of people out but it never felt "overly" crowded....I've definitely had worse Black Friday shopping experiences.  It's been less of a chore since the start of Cyber Monday too.  We went to Belk, Express, Victoria Secret, and a few other shops before leaving around 3am.  Next we went to Kohls to buy for our Salvation Army Christmas angel.  Ahhh!  Such great deals!  We finished the night at Target.  I spent too much money of course but I saved a lot too.  Also (drum roll) please - I'm done with my Christmas shopping!!! Okay well almost - there is one more item to get R but it can't be found at the mall and I can really pick it up anytime.

I'll be sharing what we decided to get our sweet angel girl too.   I usually do one every year and I'd like to encourage my readers to try it if you've never "adopted" one for the holidays.  It makes me feel like Santa!  We picked a 5 year old girl this year who wanted a doll and her ticket also lists her clothing sizes.  My mom chose an 8 year old boy who loved football and wanted a bike...we purchased items for him yesterday and earlier in the week.  The deadline in most areas is the first week of December so if you are interested find your local Salvation Army tree...usually in a mall or movie theater or contact them directly.  When we shopped today in Raleigh there were still several tickets left on the tree an these children might not receive any presents from Santa!  So if you swing the extra funds this year please consider this charity - it's legitimate and most of the kids are reasonable with their requests.

Not Completely Wordless Wednesday

Yes I know it's a bit early to talk about Christmas but I'll be putting up my tree in a little over a month and I can't wait to add this beauty from the Coton Color Collection:

Happy 2012

Happy New Year Everyone!!!!

R and I ushered in the new year at home, we decided to stay in and save some money last night.  We made a very special trip to Fresh Market yesterday to purchase all the necessities for a fantastic dinner...scallops in fettuccine and alfredo sauce, garlic toast and chocolate dipped strawberries for dessert.  He splurged on a nice bottle of champage (and I realized I'd never actually had real champagne before).  He surprised me with a nice set of napkin rings from pier one that I LOVED!  We rounded out the evening by alternating between Dick Clark's New Year's Eve Special and Coldplay's New Year Eve Live from Austin.  I felt so blessed to start 2012 in such a romantic way!

Today the Christmas decorations came down and R and I did a very thorough spring cleaning.  All the business stuff is over so we went to the movies tonight and we have plans for relaxing at home tomorrow.

So my goals for 2012....
  • Back to regular workouts, since BFF's wedding in mid November, I lost my motivation to make time for it.
  • Save money of course.  I say this every year but R and I are going to set our budget tomorrow.
  • I need to blog more regularly.  I've noticed that I blog in spurts....several in a row and then nothing for a couple of weeks.
  • Attend regular church service.  R and I found a church we both love but we have spent several weekends traveling and missed out.  I can't wait to get back in the swing of going.

Winter Weekend Wedding

R and I attended his step-sisters wedding this past weekend and it was lovely.  The groom's family booked the Cardinal Club in Raleigh as the location for the rehearsal dinner and it was decorated perfectly for Christmas.  There was a full cocktail hour with passed appetizers.  We had a full 3 course meal complete with lemon flavored grooms cake followed by toasts to the happy couple.  R and I received little ornaments attached to our placecards and I couldn't wait to add them to our tree.
This is some of R's family posing at the top of the stair case of the Cardinal Club.
We went to All Saints Chapel on Saturday for the wedding followed by a reception at the Museum of History in downtown Raleigh.  A museum is a great location for a wedding reception, it was classy yet relaxed.  There was a stunning Christmas tree in the lobby beside the staircase and R and I had to pose for a photo.
We had a great evening of drinks and dancing but we had to call it a night early.  R's family was hosting an 80th birthday celebration for his grandmother the next day at the beautiful Granary in Fearrington Village in Pittsboro, NC.

The meal was phenomenol and I was able to meet so many member of R's extended family.  We followed lunch with a Christmas celebration back at his grandma's house.  It was a very festive and very exhausting weekend.
